This is my submission for the Airship games art jam. The theme is ‘Growth’, so I went in a bit of a different direction to most, and a direction that’s closer to home. I’m hoping I’ve done the emotion justice here. I wanted to try and capture a sense of gentleness, of a single moment of growth that is simultaneously ground-breaking but also fragile and vulnerable - the eggshell softly cracking. One of a couple of coils of worn continuous track, from some variant of the US Sherman tank. The earliest continuous track was patented in 1846 as an aid for steam powered traction engines, and was used on gun carriages in the Crimean War. The propulsion system gained popularity at the turn of the century, particularly under the Caterpiller Tractor Company, and was swiftly adopted by armoured fighting vehicles alongside the invention of the tank in the First World War. Based on photographs, I believe this section to be from a late model Sherman, possibly even the M-50 ‘Super’ Sherman variant used by Israel from the 1950’s. The split-section, steel exterior plates don’t seem to appear on earlier models or in European theatres, but let me know if you’re a tank nerd and I’ve got that wrong. I was really curious on the particular art style the Valheim’s devs went for, so i tried to replicate it and make a scene for it! Had a real fun time on this one. Most of the texture here are made by downscaling to something between 50x50 and 100x100, depending on the size of the object, and then upscaling to a normal txt size (512 or 1024), keeping the hard edges of the pixels. This method specifically on the normal map is what gives really strange results that match the art style. A new kobold sculpt based on a redesign of kobolds I did a while back. Trying to steer away from the raptor-like look of my last model and go for a more dog-like face. I feel the torso still looks too human, but he’ll have a more animalistic stance if I ever get this model rigged. This particular kobold is named Bo, hopefully we’ll be seeing more of him in the future. I plan to retopologize him in Maya, then do a detail pass in ZBrush to add in scales and wrinkles and such. This cast iron waffle maker was made from a pattern used by multiple foundries in the 1800s and has no maker’s marks on it, making it impossible to know exactly who made it. It is believed, however, given where the artifact is from, that this particular waffle iron was manufactured by the Terstegge, Gohman & Co. foundry in New Albany, Indiana. This foundry also produced Anchor Stoves & Ranges. Again, there is absolutely no way to know for sure who made it — it’s only an educated guess.
