I found this great model on sketchfab and wanted to give it a coat of paint! After searching out some reference images I was inspired by 17th and 18th-century ship living quarters and some of the art and maps that were placed within them. I textured in Substance Painter and did the UV unwrap in blender (I removed some faces and internal objects to save texture space). I started by searching out some reference images of Air Balloons, but whilst there are is great work out there I couldn’t find anything that I thought really matched the model well and that I liked. So I broadened the search to old sailing ships and found some examples of private quarters and the art contained within. Canopic Chest of Tutankhamen in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. The main chest and lid is carved from alabaster. Each of the heads is a seperate carved piece and form “stoppers” for each of four internal, carved depressions. These depressions housed small inlaid gold coffinettes each of which contained a mummified packet each containing either the stomach, lungs, intenstines, or liver. The sledge is wood covered in gold leaf. Created from 169 images (Canon EOS Rebel T5i) using Metashape 1.6.1 and Blender 3D 2.8. The gold covered wooden sledge was fixed/recreated in Blender as was the cavetto molding and lower portion of the lid. Further, the 4 metal staples each on the lid, chest, and sledge were all recreated in Blender. The front left human headed stopper was created by duplicating the rear right one in Blender. The innermost coffin of three of Yuya from his tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings (KV46). The tomb was discovered in 1905 by James Quibell and contained the partially looted burials of Yuya and his wife Thuya of the 18th Dynasty. Yuya and Thuya were non-royal nobles and the parents of Queen Tiye who was the Great Royal Wife of Amenhotep III and mother of Akhenaten. The coffin is currently in the Egyptain Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Gilt wood shine on carrying poles with a recumbant statue of Anubis on top recovered from the so called “Treasury” room in the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) in the Valley of the Kings, 18th Dynasty. The Anubis statue is carved cedar covered wth gesso and black paint. The statue is pegged to the top of the shine which has a seperate board for a lid which slides to reveal an inner comparment, the front portion of which is divided into four smaller compartments. It is currently in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Cairo, but will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) sometime most likely in 2023. The tomb was discovered by Edward R. Ayrton in 1907 while working for the wealthy American Theodore M. Davis. The tomb has been controversial since it’s discovery, originally being designated the burial of Queen Tiye. It has now been shown through DNA analysis that the remains found in the tomb are those of Akenaten himself. The DNA has further demonstrated that Akhenaten was the father of Tutankhamen (King Tut). The face of the coffin and the name in the cartouche have been deliberately removed in an attempt to condemn the “heretic” pharaoh in the afterlife and erase his memory. The US Coast Guard’s findings explained that it had imploded and the crew had been instantly killed. The Titan was doomed from the beginning, with unusual practise during its construction and made with crude materials. The Titan was an experimental submersible, and was not officially certified.
