This project feels like the reimaging of two separate projects I’ve done in the past. Mountain top castle, and lighthouse island. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best.
I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born!
Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know?
I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. A personal project that I’ve been doing in my spare time for about a year. I have learned many new things during this time, for example, how to use Unreal Engine 5 and Substance Designer. Also I repeated the basics of 3D pipeline I learned at XYZ School.
Most importantly, I managed to convey the mood with which the people of the post-Soviet space are picking berries. An old but reliable grandfather’s scooter, a couple of buckets and a good tovarisch nearby – everything you need for a “quiet hunt”.
For the terrain I used the “Simple grass chunks” by 3dhdscan and the “Grassy Ground” texture by Game Textures.
