Model's Description:
3D Jaw muscles of Alligator mississippiensis 3D Model.
Download 3D Jaw muscles of Alligator mississippiensis in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
This 3D model of the semi-aquatic, predatory American alligator, Alligator mississippiensis (MUVC AL008) found in southeastern North America illustrates how having such a flat skull changes the orientations of jaw muscles to be in rather horizontal or diagnoal orientations compared to their ancestors. Read more on how the evolution of skull shape in crocodilians affected jaw muscle function in Sellers et al (2022) in in Anatomical Record: https://doi.org/10.1002/ar.24912. Thanks to the Rockefeller State Refuge, Louisiana for providing access to the specimen. Thanks to National Science Foundation 1631684 for supporting the work 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 191480 polygons.

3D Jaw muscles of Paleosuchus palpebrosus 3D Model.
Download 3D Jaw muscles of Paleosuchus palpebrosus in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
This 3D model of the partly terrestrial, predatory living Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman, Paleosuchus palpebrosus (FMNH 22817) from South America. Although crocodylians have markedly flatter skulls than their ancestors, Paleosuchus has a markedly more vertical skull than its living relatives and its temporal muscles are also rather vertcially oriented. 3D Jaw Muscles of Prestosuchus chiniquensis 3D Model.
Download 3D Jaw Muscles of Prestosuchus chiniquensis in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
This 3D model of the terrestrial, predatory crocodylomorph Prestosuchus chiniquensis (UFRGS PV0629T) from the Triassic Santa Maria Formation in Rio Grande du Sul, Brazil shows the primitive condition of temporal muscles being largely vertically oriented as well as relatively vertically oriented pterygoideus muscles compared to later crocodylomorph species.
