In partnership with the DGAM, the ICONEM’s team was the first one to be in Palmyra since Daesh’s departure. New phase of the major project « Syrian Heritage », this mission has been an opportunity to give a clear picture of the damages suffered by the « pearl of the desert », and more specifically by the Temple of Bel as it has been left behind by Daesh fighters, using photogrammetry. The digitalized 3D model allows us to observe the existence of stone blocs remaining almost intact, meaning that there might be some hope for a partial reconstruction. Some other blocs however have been dynamited. ICONEM’s support in Palmyra has been found essential in order to document the appearance and state of the site right after it’s liberation, which is going to be helpful to the scientific community. The Bison plaquette of La Madeleine (Tursac, France), represents a bison that is licking its back. It was realized on bone through incision with stone pointed utils, and it dates back to the Upper Palaeolithic (ca. 17.000-10.000 BP). It was found during the excavations conducted by Édouard Lartet between 1863 and 1865, and now it is part of the permanent collection at the palaeolithic international museum of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil. This model was realized through photogrammetry using Agisoft Metashape (ver. 1.5.3.). 180 pictures were taken of a resin replica of the piece, and the were processed and scaled using the software tools. The late 14th century alabaster tomb of Goronwy ap Tudur and his wife Myfanwy, prominent members of the family which gave rise to the Tudor dynasty, is located at St Gredifael’s church in Penmynydd, Anglesey. When the tomb chest was originally carved it would undoubtedly have been one of the finest monuments of its time. It was originally situated in the friary in Llanfaes but following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, the tomb chest was dismantled and moved to its current location at St Gredifael’s near to the original family home of the Tudors. The model was commissioned by the Church in Wales and completed by Gwynedd Archaeological Trust in 2014, prior to conservation work on the tomb and repairs to the church. The Temple of Al-Lat (Arabic: معبد اللات‎), was an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria dedicated to the goddess Al-Lat. The temple was dedicated c. 123–164 A.D. The cult statue was made with an appearance similar to statues of the Greek goddess Athena in Athens. Inside the compound, a giant lion relief (Lion of Al-lāt) was excavated and, in its original form, was a relief protruding from the temple compound’s wall.
