A salabhanjika or shalabhanjika is the sculpture of a woman, displaying stylised feminine features, standing near a tree and grasping a branch. The name of these figures comes from the Sanskrit. Placed at an angle, salabhanjika figures also were used in temple architecture as a bracket figures. Salabhanjikas are also often mentioned in ancient and modern Indian literature.

Sculpture located at the gates of “Shree Padmavhati mahabihar” in Kathmandu. Two of them are installed at the gate to guard the temple. Since Newars,an important cultural community residing in Kathmandu were historical inhabitants of kathmandu valley and were buddhist, one of the major elements of this branch of Buddhism is “Mahavihara”. These monasteries generally are built in a courtyard and are about two storeys tall.. they are found to be built from 12th to 15th century.
