A salabhanjika or shalabhanjika is the sculpture of a woman, displaying stylised feminine features, standing near a tree and grasping a branch. The name of these figures comes from the Sanskrit. Placed at an angle, salabhanjika figures also were used in temple architecture as a bracket figures. Salabhanjikas are also often mentioned in ancient and modern Indian literature. CAT: Es tracta d’una llàntia, decorada amb volutes, que conté la representació mitològica del déu Cupido en baix relleu. Al centre de l’escena hi ha la figura infantil de Cupido, nuu i alat, observant una llebre ajupida entre les fulles d’una vinya carregada de raïm.
Les llànties, lucernae en llatí, eren utensilis fets de pedra, terracota o fins i tot metall que en època romana servien per il·luminar de manera artificial les estances de les llars. La llum era originada a partir d’una metxa o metxes que, en encendre’s, cremaven lentament gràcies a la càrrega d’oli d’oliva que hi havia a l’interior de la llàntia.
