Commissioned by Yax Pasaj Chan Yopaat (Ruler 16, reigned 763-822;
previously known as Yax Pac, Madrugada, New Sun-at-Horizon)
These silhouette sculpture portray feathered vision serpents and are unique to
Copan. It is believed that originally they were part of the decoration of Structure 3.
Vision serpents are the conduit between the earth and the supernatural realms. They connect a Maya king to his source of spiritual power from the gods and deified ancestors (Asociacion Copan, 2010, p.195).

Desde su descubrimiento en el año 1970, permaneció expuesta en la propia Cueva Pintada y tras el cierre de la misma en el año 1982, se depositó en las casas consistoriales del Ayuntamiento de Gáldar, hasta que en el año 2006 pasó a formar parte del colección permanente del Museo y Parque Arqueológico Cueva Pintada.
