It was suposedly designed to allow to hear soldiers cllimbing the wall as they would eventally let a small rock fall. I was excited to discover in my research on the Temple of Zeus at Olympia (ca. 460 BCE) that the University of Heidelberg had made available online the published findings of the German excavations that began in 1875 (https://goo.gl/eyPAo9). In Volume 3, I found a photograph of the reconstructed east pediment sculptures (https://goo.gl/qLsfp3), which inspired me to paint it (since Greek statues were polychromed) and create a displacement map. “Pausanias…identifies the subject of the East Pediment as the chariot race between Oenomaos, King of Pisa, and Pelops, a suitor of Oenomaos’ daughter Hippodameia. He adds that the race has not yet begun. The quietness of the scene suggests that the specific event is the taking of the oath by the contestants before the race, watched over by Zeus…in the center of the pediment.” The remains are housed in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. This model of an African Bush Elephant is more than 4 years old. You can see the first version of it here: https://sketchfab.com/models/nbHrGAzBh1SktiN4DnpXFDykZcv At the time I was pleased with it, but I had trouble with the posture and I wasn’t that skilled yet to get the polygons to an acceptable level. The last week I have been working on it again, one of the advantages of working in digital 3d. I changed a lot of things in posture, sizes and shape, most of them subtle but more in line with what an African Elephant looks like. This version of the model is an intermediate sized model. I could go down to the lowest polygon version, but I think this is a good compromize between ease of use and actual details displayed. And as you can see I used the posibilities of the viewer to give it a look and feel that matches the grandeur of a great African elephant bul. P.S. The model has Dept of Field (DoF). If you click on a part of the elephant it will go into focus and the rest blurs. Very happy with this one- a low poly pbr model of an A-wing, somewhere in between the Star Wars: Rebels and Return of the Jedi versions, complete with a low detail cockpit interior and pilot, and some of my best textures yet. The overall proportions and colorscheme are inspired by Rebels, but the engine tips, split nose and laser cannons are more like RotJ– really this design could go anywhere in the post-Clone Wars timeline. The glass material uses the same textures as the hull, so if you had a huge fleet and wanted to improve performance, you can apply the hull material to the whole thing to have opaque black shiny glass, and then you could delete the pilot too to save on his material. On the other hand, if you want to get fancier and add some refraction to the glass, the glass pieces are their own separate elements, so it is easy to select them and add a little bit of thickness with a shell/solidify modifier in your 3D software of choice. Some lights in the engines will also make it look fancier. This is my improved environment from a previous compulsory. I was originally going to use normal maps tht I made in 3DCoat, but they looked awful on the towers that I instead went for a less detailed approach, with larger focus on colour. The rings and moon are all animated to be slowly floating up and down, in 3 different speeds (they also glow). The large creature that pierces through many of the spiral clouds, is a mix between a Furby (spesifically the Long Furby meme) and the length of an asian dragon.
