The lighthouse of the City of Chania on the island of Crete is the most recognizable part of the city and one of the oldest in the world. It is 21m high build on stone base and is located at the entrance of the Ancient harbour’s pier of The Fortress of Firkas. Build by the Venetians at the end of the 16th century it was reconstructed by the Egyptians in the form of minaret during the Egyptian period around 1830-40. During the Turkish Occupation, the lighthouse was abandoned. The current lighthouse tower is mounted on a trapezoidal base which holds since the Venetian Era. The tower is divided in three parts: an octagonal lower part, the middle part with sixteen sides, and the third part which is circular. The lighthouse was leaning badly due to bombings during WWII and earthquakes but was renovated in 2005-6. Super telephoto photogrammetry of a wreck abandoned boat derelict. Pealing chipping off layers of paint. Lots of seaweed and seashells from the lagoon of Venice. Unfortunately I could’t get full coverage because I coun’t get very close to the subject, maybe 20m the closest, I could’t get all the photos I wanted especially from the top. This was one of times I wish I had a drone (not sure if it’s even allowed to fly in that area anyway), so I tried my best with a 400mm lens handheld from any place I could walk around it. I managed anyway to get comfortably 3x8K textures and normals in a relatively low poly model. Alūksne Castle (Latvian: Marienburgas pils, Alūksnes pils; Swedish: Marienburg; German: Marienburg) is a castle of Teutonic Knights in current Alūksne, North-Eastern Latvia. The castle was built in 1342 on the largest of the islands in the Lake Alūksne and called Marienburg. The first castle was constructed by the Landmeister Burkhard von Dreileben. It was part of a major reinforcement of the Eastern border of Livonia. The strength of the castle was repeatedly proven by repelling a number of attacks in the 16th century. After the fall of the Old Livonia, the castle remained habitable. It was finally destroyed in 1702 in the Great Northern War by its Swedish garrison to avoid falling in the hands of Russians. Construction of the choir began around 1390, the nave was built in the second quarter of the 15th century. Completion took place in 1451. The imposing west front of the Wolfgangskirche was a demonstration of power against the lower-lying and then smaller parish church. In 1782 the church was abandoned and in 1796 it was taken out of consecration. Demolition work with the blasting of the vaults was not profitable and left a ruin. From 1860 to 1862 a reconstruction was made. In 1862 the church was consecrated anew. A fire on 6 April 1918 again left the church in ruins. From 1919 to 1926, work was done to restore the church with plans by the architect Richard Jordan. This house was once belonged to a timber baron in a small Northern California city. But after the logging industry went bust, it’s owner abandoned it to the elements. While not a complete ruin, this house will need a lot of TLC to bring it back to it’s former glory. This house was an experiment for me in tileable materials and seeing how far I could get using nothing but Photoshop for texture creation instead of my usual go to, Substance Painter. Most of these materials started out with a diffuse texture I either photographed myself or found on CGtextures.com. I then created the normal, spec, emmisive, etc in Photoshop. I think this technique works well if you’re going to be putting the model into an engine like Unity or Unreal. The textures hold up at very close and they can be used across many different buildings or props you may have in your game. Also being able to add secondary textures would allow for more variations like grunge.
