The lighthouse of the City of Chania on the island of Crete is the most recognizable part of the city and one of the oldest in the world. It is 21m high build on stone base and is located at the entrance of the Ancient harbour's pier of The Fortress of Firkas. Build by the Venetians at the end of the 16th century it was reconstructed by the Egyptians in the form of minaret during the Egyptian period around 1830-40. During the Turkish Occupation, the lighthouse was abandoned. The current lighthouse tower is mounted on a trapezoidal base which holds since the Venetian Era. The tower is divided in three parts: an octagonal lower part, the middle part with sixteen sides, and the third part which is circular. The lighthouse was leaning badly due to bombings during WWII and earthquakes but was renovated in 2005-6. The Berengaria Hotel opened its doors in 1931 and closed down in 1984. It now stands desolate, derelict and its stone structure is beginning to crumble. During its time, it was the hidden jewel of the mountains as it was a luxurious hotel hosting visitors such as Pharouk, the King of Egypt and Ezer Vaisman president of Israel as well as top businessmen of the time. It was a mountain resort with a casino, night club and had state of the art furniture and decor.
What makes the Berebgaria Hotel appealing is its peculiar hostory. The hotel closed down due to bad business and huge profit loss but underlying stories uncover secrets within the family. It was said that the original owner, after having built a hotel himself with an international presence and reputation, left the hotel to his three sons. Windmill from the village of Bogdanka near Juchnowiec (Podlasie) from 1945 translocated to the open-air museum of the Podlasie folk-cultural museum located in Wasilkow. The object is a 27-hectare area, on which more than 30 wooden objects were located.

It is one of three objects that we have scanned together with Monika Urbańczyk at the Museum of Folk Culture. This is also my first approach to scan an object of this size.
