Raiden is a particularly unique and compelling character, and I wanted to give him a MK9 redesign that would really stand out while staying true to his MKX look. I might have worked with the MKX model itself, if not for the fact that the cowl on MK9 could be removed - so I did, and added hair according to his concept art. His outfit is much fancier now, suitable for godly attire. Technical details: -Face repainted and resculpted to look like MKX. Skin tone adjusted, stubble removed. Cowl removed by paint-work, hair rigged onto his head. Hands also repainted for detail/texture and to match his face. -All outfit elements upgraded with surface details. Grey cloud pattern applied to white cloth areas, fabric texture added throughout. Cloth dynamics painted onto entire outfit. All metal areas now have an embossed surface. -Model re-scaled to MKX proportions and height, armature adjusted to A-pose. First test with Agisoft Photoscan on a piece of lawn decor from my front yard. Showing here a game-ready low-poly LOD group. PROCESS 32 pictures were taken on my T3i around the owl using Magic Latern for Dual ISO (gives me a higher dynamic range to cancel out shadows). These were then taken into Agisoft for point cloud and high poly mesh generation. Once I have my high poly I take that into Instant Meshes to generate 3 levels of an LOD group (shown in my models here). These are taken into Blender for a quick UV unwrap, then re-exported to Substance Designer. In Substance Designer I bake down my base colour, normals, AO, curvature, and position data from my high poly to each low poly in the LOD group. The base colour is run through some AO cancellation and the new high frequency/low frequency light cancellation nodes. The roughness is created using a generator which takes the AO and curvature data to create grunge. “Take a right on the beaten path, and you will find a cabin belonging to The Crow.” Small diorama scene made for a school assignment. The theme I chose was “Forest Loner”, and I thought it would be interesting to create a house that looked like it was made by hand from local materials. I’ve always been curious about tileable textures, and decided to try my hand at creating a few to be used in the scene. I created a wood and metal trim texture which was used in the texturing of the shed, the house, the water tower and the electrical poles. I also made a texture sheet for the metal roofing and used it to also texture the small electrical conductors on the electrical poles. This is the 3rd version of the Saitama 3D character models that I have been working on over the past few weeks. I have learned a lot from creating this character, and am quite OK with the result. More 3D character designs will follow. :) The initial high-resolution mesh was first sculpted using ZBrush, then ZRemeshed to create the 1st pass of retopology, which was then simplified and adjusted in Maya to make it cleaner and more game-ready. After the model was constructed in the “A-pose”, I used Maya’s built-in Human IK feature to set up the joints, skin the model, apply the rig, and pose the character.
