Some stairs I found in the German-French Garden in Saarbrücken. Did you know? Over 3 years ago, when I uploaded this decimated raw scan, Sketchfab did not have any restrictions for texture size (or at least none I can remember). Consequently, when the new 8k texture limit kicked in, my singular model was automatically split into 4 chunks (judging by the current number of UVs), to accomodate the lower resolutions. Anse de Laurons 2 is the wreck of a small Roman period sailing vessel dating to the end of the 3rd century CE, which probably sank during a storm while sheltering in the shallow harbor at Laurons, just west of Marseille in modern France. At only about 15m in length and with an estimated displacement of around 30 tons, it probably only traded between small harbors along the local coastline. When it sank, the port-side was quickly covered in sediment ensuring excellent preservation up to the deck and even the railing. Rigging elements, a spare rudder, and possible fragments from wooden panels that may have covered the hold, along with rarely-preserved structures for supporting the side rudders (the side “wings” you see in a lot of Roman period art). This reconstruction is based on plans by R. Bockius. The decorative elements are hypothetical, based on contemporary paintings and mosaics. It weighs 20,6 kg and is about 170 cm tall. The surface is completely covered with relief decor. The innermost coffin of three of Yuya from his tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings (KV46). The tomb was discovered in 1905 by James Quibell and contained the partially looted burials of Yuya and his wife Thuya of the 18th Dynasty. Yuya and Thuya were non-royal nobles and the parents of Queen Tiye who was the Great Royal Wife of Amenhotep III and mother of Akhenaten. The coffin is currently in the Egyptain Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Created from 177 photographs (Canon EOS Rebel T5i) using Metashape 1.5.5. The base of the coffin was unavailable for scanning and has been reconstructed using Meshmixer 3.5 with texture touched up using Blender 2.8 Texture Painting. Gilt wood shine on carrying poles with a recumbant statue of Anubis on top recovered from the so called “Treasury” room in the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) in the Valley of the Kings, 18th Dynasty. The Anubis statue is carved cedar covered wth gesso and black paint. The statue is pegged to the top of the shine which has a seperate board for a lid which slides to reveal an inner comparment, the front portion of which is divided into four smaller compartments. It is currently in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Cairo, but will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) sometime most likely in 2023. The shrine and statue are accession number JE61444 and Carter number 261. Created from 237 photos (Canon EOS Rebel T7i and Moto G5 Stylus) using Metashape and Blender. The Great Temple at Abu Simbel, which took about twenty years to build, was completed around year 24 of the reign of Ramesses the Great (which corresponds to 1265 BC). It was dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to the deified Ramesses himself. It is generally considered the grandest and most beautiful of the temples commissioned during the reign of Ramesses II, and one of the most beautiful in Egypt. With the passage of time, the temples fell into disuse and eventually became covered by sand. By the 6th century BC, the sand already covered the statues of the main temple up to their knees. Wooden coffin of Pharaoh Amenhotep I of the 18th Dynasty in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt. This coffin is the one in which his body was recovered in the Royal Mummy Cache in tomb DB320 in 1881. However, it is a replacement coffin, having been origianlly made for a priest by the name of Djehutymose. The inscription down the front of the coffin calls upon the god Osiris-Wennefer to provide offerings of bread, beer, oxen, fowl, and all good and pure things to Amenhotep I. Created from 284 photographs (Canon EOS Rebel T5i) using Metashape 1.5.4. Hypostyle hall of the Hathor shrine at the temple of Hatshepsut was the most difficult part of the photoscanning project from scientific grant “Dialog” (under directory of Jadwiga Iwaszczuk PhD, founded by National Science Centre of Poland for collaboration of IKŚiO PAN (Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, Polish Academy of Science), PCMA UW (Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archeology, University of Warsaw) and Ministry of Antiquities of Arab Republic of Egypt. Model was created from 5159 photos taken during a one hour of light gap per day, when the temple is covered by the shadow of the mountain in the late afternoon, but with still enough light for sharp images. The ancient Mayan city of Tikal is located deep in the heart of Guatemala’s El Petén rain forest, within Tikal National Park. The ancient city, covering an area greater than 16 sq km (6.2 sq mi), is the largest known ancient Maya city-complex dating to the Classic period. It is estimated to have had a peak population of 100,000 to 200,000 with an urban density of 600 to 700 people per square kilometer. During the Classic Maya period from 200 to 850 CE, Tikal flourished, becoming the preeminent political, economic, and military power in the region. At least 33 rulers oversaw the construction of numerous monuments, many of which remain to be uncovered. This is the fossilised claw of a carnivorous (meat-eating) dinosaur. It was found at Cape Otway, Victoria in 2014 by John Wilkins during fieldwork by a Museum Victoria-led team of researchers and volunteers. This claw is very similar to the claw of Australovenator wintonensis, a theropod dinosaur found in Queensland and described in 2009. We think that this claw specimen is from a dinosaur closely related to Australovenator, if not from the same species. Both Victorian and Queensland dinosaurs would have been alive about 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. The Museum Victoria claw is obviously from a carnivore, being rather sharp. In life it would have been even longer and sharper as the bone would have been covered by a horny sheath. In 1886 the engineer Carl Benz (1844–1929) of Mannheim filed a patent application for a “vehicle operated by a gas engine”. It was the first car with a gasoline engine. From today’s standpoint Benz’s Patentwagen represents the basic innovation behind an entire transport system. However, it met with very little public interest in 1886. To change that situation a market for cars first had to be established. Initially it was motor sport enthusiasts who discovered the “self-propelled” vehicles. The Benz Motorwagen initially enjoyed its greatest success in France, which became the trendsetter for Europe’s motoring community in the 1890s through marketing and sport. However, there was at least one local publicity tour, when Berta Benz headed off on the first “overland journey” by car in 1888, driving her two sons from Mannheim to Pforzheim.
