The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 1 was a large ocean going ship, a trading vessel probably known as a Knarr. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built on the west coast of Norway around the 1030’s CE, and so ended it’s life far from where it was built. At some point in its life it had suffered massive damage which left it with a warped keel, and which necessitated significant reconstruction of the hull. This digital recreation is based on the ‘Ottar’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. The provision of a tent over the hold is hypothetical. The lighthouse was leaning badly due to bombings during WWII and earthquakes but was renovated in 2005-6. The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole combat aircraft that is intended to perform both air superiority and strike missions. It is also able to provide electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. The aircraft has three main variants: the conventional takeoff and landing F-35A, the short take-off and vertical-landing F-35B, and the carrier-based F-35C. The F-35 first flew in 2006 and entered service with the U.S. Marine Corps F-35B in July 2015, followed by the U.S. Air Force F-35A in August 2016 and the U.S. Navy F-35C in February 2019. The aircraft was first used in combat in 2018 by the Israeli Air Force.
