The reconstruction is based primarily on the excavation report by Peter Marsden published by English Heritage, “Ships of the Port of London – First to eleventh Centuries AD”. Where no evidence remained, such as for the sails and the rear of the ship, Roman period iconography and other Roman period shipwrecks from northern Europe were used as inspiration. In search for inspiration I went down to my basement (well, it’s COVID time, I don’t have too much options :D) and well, I found one - a 1870s Singer sewing machine. It’s broken, almost every elements in it refuses to work properly and it got eaten by corrosion, but it’s still beautiful and become the main reference for this project, although ornaments I’ve designed looks as later, kinda art deco style. Manufactured by absolutely fictional Willoughsby Manufacturing Comapny. This beautiful font used in Willoughsby Manufacturing Company logo is Grenadier NF by Nick Curtis.
