This is a work in progress of a personal project i have been working on. Ever since working on our previous project Aurora, i’ve always been thinking of ways to integrate interesting and powerful scultptures into the environment that will dwarf the player in awe. This was a piece i couldn’t get out of my mind the most though. I wanted to explore how an ancient civiliasation would visulaize the journey of a soul from the mortal plane to the after life. Taking themes from Michalangelos ‘Creation of Adam’, the piece represents the connection between Human and God. travelling from one domain to another represented through a staircase running up both beings hands. Super telephoto photogrammetry of a wreck abandoned boat derelict. Pealing chipping off layers of paint. Lots of seaweed and seashells from the lagoon of Venice. Unfortunately I could’t get full coverage because I coun’t get very close to the subject, maybe 20m the closest, I could’t get all the photos I wanted especially from the top. This was one of times I wish I had a drone (not sure if it’s even allowed to fly in that area anyway), so I tried my best with a 400mm lens handheld from any place I could walk around it. I managed anyway to get comfortably 3x8K textures and normals in a relatively low poly model. This exquisite drinking cup for atol in the collection of the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame (cat. # 1982.053) is adorned along the rim with jaguar prints on the inside and hieroglyphs on the outside. The previously unpublished inscription is one of the finest examples of seventh-century Maya caligraphy and contains rare variants of number 9 and TZ’AK. There are no personal names or place names. The text only states that the cup belonged to “the artisan of the eternal lord”. The orthography of the inscription is rather unusual: the scribe apparently tried to arrange the text so that it would consist of 20 characters in 11 segments (blocks) with an extra visual emphasis on the word “eternal (bolon tz’akbuul)”.
