Here’s my process using blender: I box modeled the body, the arms and the head as separate objects and smoothed everything with the subdivison surface modifier. For the texture I used a wacom tablet in combination with blenders texture paint mode. I have no experience with texture painting, but I’m quite happy with the first result.
