I was really curious on the particular art style the Valheim’s devs went for, so i tried to replicate it and make a scene for it! Had a real fun time on this one. Most of the texture here are made by downscaling to something between 50x50 and 100x100, depending on the size of the object, and then upscaling to a normal txt size (512 or 1024), keeping the hard edges of the pixels. This method specifically on the normal map is what gives really strange results that match the art style. I was approached by BuildersBrew to create a small diorama of a Medieval Farmer ploughing the fields, this was based off of some references provided and is to be used within the immersive mobile app for The Chester House Estate. Conservation with the overall tricount, texture space and alpha usage in the project was important to make sure the model could load well in the application, the texture for the character was 4k for this render however this was reduced to 2k in the application and the overall tricount came in at around 70k for the whole project.
