This sculpture is the cenotaph (and empty tomb) of Francisco Moltó Valor who was the mayor of the city of Alcoy (Spain) in the year 1876 and an important businessman.

Today, I organised a 3D scanning workshop at ESSEC Business School. A brand new Knowledge Lab has been inaugurated a few months ago. It is a fab-lab for scientific and pedagogical innovation. Workshops on many different topics are organised on a regular basis, and today was about 3D scanning!
Now a few students know how to take good pictures with no shades, good lighting, and from any angle ; how to use Recap360 or Memento to turn those pictures into a 3D model ; how to enhance its mesh on Meshlab ; how to publish it on Sketchfab, edit it with the 3D Settings, publish it anywhere online, and enjoy it in VR straight from their cardboard!
Here was the object we used for the workshop, a set of coasters that look like tennis rackets. Well, we are not particularly fans of tennis in my family, even if we watch Roland-Garros as every French dudes do, so I have actually no idea why we have that at home. This is all that remains of SS Rifle, one of the earliest surviving examples of a small pre-fabricated screw steamer in the British Isles. Rifle was purchased by the Locheil Estate in the 1860s for use on Loch Arkaig, ferrying goods, passengers and mail between the isolated dwellings around the loch.
As well as being a practical vessel, Rifle was also used for pleasure, often carrying shooting parties.
The boat was laid-up in the 1930s, and whilst being scrapped, sank and lay buried until removed by the army after becoming a hazard to wartime vessels working from the pier. Rifle was blasted away from the pier, losing the bow in the process.
Despite being submerged for over half a century, it was raised in 1990. Although in a very fragile condition, Rifle’s propeller is a well-preserved example of an early design.
