The original model from the game! This was the first dragon ever made for Skyrim, and it took me three months to make (what with all the back-and-forth with programming, art and design). All the variants - the Blood Dragons, the Ancient Dragons, etc - came later, and were all texture variants of this one, with low-poly mesh changes to the mesh. As with all things art, there are elements of this guy I wish I could change, but ultimately I love this dude and I’m proud of him. Recently I took an opportunity to redo a couple of our older starfighter assets in Sins of the Prophets, starting with our Longsword fighters of the UNSC faction. This particular model is of the smaller Longsword variant known as the “C-712”, serving as an interceptor in game. This model is about double the polygons of the older model, at 1,036 polygons in all. I created this model based on references from the actual movie props and some amazingly faithful replicas. The geometry is relatively light weight for use in game engines. The counter animation is geometry based, so it can be used dynamically and adressed by code. Complete with 4K PBR textures. My motivation for this piece came from rewatching the Aliens movies. I took this as an opportunity to learn Substance Painter and figure out how to bake maps for a more complex model like this. It’s also always interesting to learn a few things about design in general and about the object you’re researching in specific. When researching references it helped me to find out that parts of this design are based on real life rifles like the “M1A1 Thompson” and the “Spas 12” shotgun. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 7959 polygons.
