This is a model of an 18th Century English hanger sword that I made originally using RealityCapture. I’ve returned to my original model, retopologized it, reworked the textures, and cleaned it up in some spots that needed manual attention. I’m quite happy with the result, and look forward to incorporating retopology in to my workflow more frequently. The blade is in excellent condition, and the hilt is a finely crafted work of silver. Both maintain an almost mirrored finish, presenting an enormous challenge to capture through photogrammetry. The initial model turned out okay considering the conditions, but several parts of the model had issues with continuity of the normals due to the nature of the more random topology of the model RealityCapture produced. This results in razor edges looking rough and jagged, as well as the smooth mirrored surfaces appearing lumpy and unfinished. Courier for Dota 2 created by Shaylyn Hamm and myself. I did rigging & animation, she did modeling & texturing. It was accepted by Valve and put for sale in the first Frostivus 2018 treasure! Don’t forget to check out the animation list, there’s a handful in there! For reference, most of these are always seen from a top-down perspective, at 30-ish degrees. This is a rework of the initial submission from a year ago. A lot of things were updated: the design was changed, the materials significantly upgraded, and the animations were not only modified to account for the model changes, but also polished; I also used the opportunity to add a new flying idle rare animation. The animations here on Sketchfab differ very slightly from the final in-game version. (Most notably the front flippers in the ground idle.)
