Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the birth of Dolly the Sheep, the first cloned mammal to be created from an adult cell. Dolly was born on 5 July 1996 at the Roslin Institute, Scotland of a Scottish Blackface surrogate mother. She died on 14 February 2003. This is the future, November of 2003. Wolves have taken over planet Baaa and established an oppressive dictatorship over the sheep population. Nevertheless, hope is not lost with the uprising of the wool rebellion and their operation “Sheep in a wolf’s clothing” which consists of hijacking mech sentinels from the wolf army, and infiltrating into their HQ for one final blow towards freedom! I had a lot of fun in this project that started as a simple “let’s turn a bad pun into 3D” during lunch breaks and escalated to a fully textured, rigged and animated character. This timber carving of the archangel St Michael stands at 3.3 metres tall, with its large medallion engraved with a cross coming in at 5.4 meters and is suspended from the vaulted ceiling on the Scottish National War Memorial 9.3 metres above the casket that holds the Roll of Honour of the Scottish War Dead. The carving is made of Scottish Oak and was made by the Clow brothers from a design by Alice Meredith-Williams. The Scottish War Memorial opened in 1927 after the former North Barracks were altered. It is located at the North side of Crown Square, at the site of the church of St Mary, previously used as munitions store in the 1530s. It is cared for on behalf of the nation by a charity that is administered by a board of trustees. A Samian ware platter from Falkirk, possibly associated with Camelon fort. It is 5cm high and 18cm in diameter. It was made near Lezoux in France and the maker’s mark ’ RIIOGENIM ‘, which translates as ‘Ritogenus’, is stamped on the inside of the base. Fine dishes such as these would have been used by the Roman officers and their families stationed in the forts along the Antonine Wall. The Antonine Wall stretched right across Scotland, from the Clyde to the Forth. Constructed around 142 AD, and occupied for only 20 years, the remains of its ramparts, steep ditches, forts and bathhouses are still visible today. Since 2008, it has been part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site.
