Hi, I’m a student to Game Design and 3D art. This is my first attempt at modeling a real weapon, created first a High-Poly model for backing the normal map from it. Made it with the mechanical parts ready for animation. Used it in a game project that was created in unity HDRP. Modeled in Maya, textured in Substance Painter and created few alphas by myself for some parts. Was challenging but fun. Learned a lot from making it, I could make something simpler but I wanted to improve my modeling abilities. After playing some Alien: Isolation I just had to make this model. After a day and a half of work, fueled mainly by hip hop, it is complete. The face detail is actually all texture work and the face geometry itself is completely flat. I could have used a high-low poly bake but I decided instead to use an alpha and the height map stamping effect in Substance Painter as I was going to be spending a lot of time authoring the texture for the face text anyway I might as well just make an alpha for the imprint (also my laptop would probably just melt if I tried to work with a high poly with enough polygons). This is my first model using opacity maps. This was a fun project to make, not only because of the classic gaming console but also the early 80’s TV. Admittedly, I never actually owned an Atari 2600, but my dear grandma had a TV like this for many years when I was a kid, so it’s sentimental to me. There are many textures included, but don’t let it scare you too much; they’re all appropriately labelled and easy to apply. A lot of them are 128x128 uniform color textures, which shouldn’t add much of an extra workload to your scene, and some materials share the larger textures as well. There are several cartridge materials included, and you can easily change the TV screen texture, so you could get really creative with what game is playing in your scene! Or you could have it not playing a game and just put your own video on there or something, anything you’d like! Glass Cabinet that was inspired by a glass cabinet that I own and re-created using Blender. This model set uses PBR textures and was made using the metalness workflow. Included with the model are several different textures for customization. Also included is a texture of the UVLayout for the model so that you can easily see how each part of the model is divided. This is a glass cabinet that makes use of the alpha channel on its diffuse map to create transparency for the glass walls, doors and shelves. There is also a diffuse map that does not use the alpha channel and a separate opacity map. It has a lock on the front glass door which uses a metallic map to make it metal. Here’s my latest project, a Smith & Wesson 66-8 .357 Revolver. This has a good amount of parts to it, so to have everything bake out right I had to bake by mesh name. I learned two things - that baking by mesh name is case sensitive, and trying to use an .fbx before it’s fully exported just doesn’t work. It corrupts your exported file. Just so you know. With the textures, I used a combination of materials and masks to mimic dirt, grime, and soot from repeated use. I had to make about 7 alphas for all the height details. I had to adjust some materials so it’d read better as metal instead of stone, as well as adjusting the damage information and swapping out some normals that I wasn’t satisfied with. Time to call this model finished for now.
