A little remake of my previous project from 2003, the DJ5000. I wanted to see how far I’d come with the tools and my personal skills since then, and I think the results speak for themselves! Of course it helps that this is 44k triangles and utilizes several textures with the average size being 2048x2048, where the original from 2003 had only 445 triangles and a single 512x512 texture! So roughly this is about 100x more detailed than the original project! How far technology has come, and how far will it go further still. Real world scale. This huge sculpture stands in the middle of Bordeaux (France). When I walked by, I was stunned by this “half flat” sculpture, and shot it with my phone. I was realy impressed by the very realistic rendering, although most of the volume has been flattened. Another feature worth noting : its proportions take into account the fact that the viewer is on the ground, so that the upper part of the head is much larger than it should be , to compensate for the perspective. This is a technique that has been know for a long time, (used by Michelangelo), but it’s interesting to see how it applies here. I created this model based on references from the actual movie props and some amazingly faithful replicas. The geometry is relatively light weight for use in game engines. The counter animation is geometry based, so it can be used dynamically and adressed by code. Complete with 4K PBR textures. My motivation for this piece came from rewatching the Aliens movies. I took this as an opportunity to learn Substance Painter and figure out how to bake maps for a more complex model like this. It’s also always interesting to learn a few things about design in general and about the object you’re researching in specific. When researching references it helped me to find out that parts of this design are based on real life rifles like the “M1A1 Thompson” and the “Spas 12” shotgun. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 7959 polygons.

Hello everyone! This is Gray Fox, the mysterious cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid. He wears an exoskeleton and uses his Fox Blade to slice enemies. I mixed up a bit some references to make his cyborg suit, the original concept art from Shinkawa, the first suit from MGS1 and the armor from Metal Gear Rising. This is an old model I made some time ago. Recently I decided to work on it again and try to do some texture work. My entry for the “Fisherman” challenge on the WeeklyCGChallenge!! I came back to 3d after a long summer break with almost three months without any modeling. And it was a real blast to work on this and recover de hobby. The scene features the Andrea Gail, the fishing boat that was lost at the sea during the “Perfect Storm” on 1991. Also, a great chance to try the Screen Space Reflections on the water, which really add to the scene. Modeled with Blender, textured with Quixel Suite. I wanted to make a new hellenic thing, but then realised that this may be original Roman design - at least I found no evidence of greek origins of the design. It’s still doric though! This model is based on the sarcophagus of Lucius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus (clearly a roman guy), and here is the fun fact - the inscription on the tablet was once redone, most likely by one of the relatives of Scipio. So I changed the text a bit with some lines from the movie “Blood & Concrete: A Love Story” - since Romans really loved concrete, which they called opus caementicium. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 34609 polygons.
