Originally, this was a logo design that I made for #KPPLOGO contest (when Kyary achieved her 5 year as a musical artist). Didn’t win, but I like the concept enought to make a 3D version. The idea consist in a giant living cake/ice cream that eats everything that cross it mouth. There’s lots of sweet things around since Kyary stuff usually looks that way. The cake eating a cloud or the cream vortex swallowing a cherry might not be so sweet, but her art have those details quite often. This was made in Blender for modeling and Substance Paint for texturing. Textures range from 512x512 up to 4k. After the success of my Ghostbusters Ecto 1 and Firehouse exterior scene, I decided to challenge myself with the interior. Using online reference of Engine 23’s interior, movie screen grabs and floor plans, I managed to get something that resembles the layout. The fun part was adding the details that made it look like a fully established business. Things to look for: Janine’s infamous Whale Paperweight, Her copy of People Magazine, the Rainbow Dec 100 computer Egon installed, the guys lockers and the pole Ray slid down. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best. I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born! Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know? I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. However, it is a replacement coffin, having been origianlly made for a priest by the name of Djehutymose. The inscription down the front of the coffin calls upon the god Osiris-Wennefer to provide offerings of bread, beer, oxen, fowl, and all good and pure things to Amenhotep I. The last week I have been working on it again, one of the advantages of working in digital 3d. I changed a lot of things in posture, sizes and shape, most of them subtle but more in line with what an African Elephant looks like. This version of the model is an intermediate sized model. I could go down to the lowest polygon version, but I think this is a good compromize between ease of use and actual details displayed. And as you can see I used the posibilities of the viewer to give it a look and feel that matches the grandeur of a great African elephant bul. P.S. The model has Dept of Field (DoF).
