Digital 3D reconstruction model of Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirling, Scotland showing what the abbey and adjoining monastic buildings might have looked like in its rebuilt state following an attack by the army of King Richard II of England in 1383. The abbey has an accompanying freestanding bell tower or campanile which is unusual in Scotland. The tower is the only surviving part of the original church that remains standing to this day. It may have been spared its destruction by virtue of its use as a watchtower. The exterior masonry of the church may have appeared with a much brighter, lime-washed rendering than I have shown in this reconstruction. The masonry may also have featured decorative (painted) elements but such evidence for the exterior rendering of churches from before the reformation is hard to come by. According to this apartment-type dormitory project, 8 houses were built in Leningrad (USSR), two of which received a round extension for public institutions. The only building outside of Leningrad, the dormitory of the Krasny Oktyabr factory in Vitebsk, was built in 1979. The Belarusian building is distinguished by the number of floors (18) and facade finishing. Among the people, the house received the nicknames “Glassful”, “Corn”, “Barrel”.
Due to the strange layout, there was a tale circulating around Leningrad that these buildings were masking missile silos hidden inside. One of the residents of the house recalls: “I still remember the first time I was looking for a way out - like Semyon Farada in The Enchanters! All doors are the same. And the corridor never ends! How to get off the floor?
