Founded in 1350 C.E., Ayutthaya was the Siamese capital of Thailand until the 18th century. Ayutthaya developed into a booming city starting in 1378 C.E., surpassing the old capital of Sukhothai. King Ramathibodi declared Ayutthaya the new capital and it was named after a magical kingdom from the Ramakien, an epic story about Thailand. The city was attacked and burned to the ground in 1767 C.E. by the Burmese army. The only remaining buildings in Ayutthaya are of stone, as the wood structure burned to the ground in 1767 C.E. After the destruction of Ayutthaya, the capital was moved to Bangkok and there was an effort to recreate the urban template and architecture of Ayutthaya. In Thai, the official name of Bangkok retains Ayutthaya as part of the formal name. Kamouh el Hermel, the Pyramid of Hermel (also known as God’s Pyramid, House of El, the Funnel of Hermel or Needle of Hermel) is an ancient pyramid located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south of Hermel in Baalbek-Hermel Governorate, Lebanon.
The pyramid sits on top of a hill that is clearly visible from a distance and has been fenced off to prevent damage. Despite this, the monument was heavily vandalised by locals in 2000–2018, all the four faces of the base being covered with graffiti and no serious measures being taken by the authorities for its conservation. It is between 19.6 metres (64 ft) and 27 metres (89 ft) high and sits on a base measuring around 1.1 metres (3.6 ft) with three steps made from black basalt. On the base site two massive limestone blocks weighing between 40 tonnes (40,000 kg) and 50 tonnes (50,000 kg). The blocks are around 7 metres (23 ft) high and 9 metres (30 ft) wide and are crowned by a pyramid measuring some 4.5 metres (15 ft) high.

Ornately carved sandstone stela from the Archaeological Park and Ruins of Quiriguá, an inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Department of Izabal, Guatemala. The piece was 3D laser scanned in 2019 during the extensive documentation survey at the site by our USF Libraries DHHC team. We utilized structured light scanners at various resolutions on this monument as well as imaging and longer range laser scanning to capture landscape context details.
