Anyway, it was super fun bringing Miski’s (@miskiart) concept into the 3D sphere (pun intended) just becuase I always enjoy the challenge of using outlines and bright colors. This piece, however, is a bit out of my usual format since the textures are just base colors with little to no hand-painterly work. It was still fun being able to try and translate such a flat image to 3D! Just a little preview for what I’m working on (and nearly done with), a 3d printable Rex droid! There are no normal maps on this, it’s all water-tight ready to print geometry. Because of the limits of Sketchfab, it’s not SUPER high poly (like tens of millions), but it should be at the top end of the limit. It should be suitable for smaller scale print jobs, like if you wanted a 12 inch Rex droid. Probably not good enough for life-size, unless you don’t mind working with body filler and lots of sanding. edit: a keen eyed fan pointed out the hand is the incorrect hand for this particular arm of Rex, and they’re 100% correct. Ever since working on our previous project Aurora, i’ve always been thinking of ways to integrate interesting and powerful scultptures into the environment that will dwarf the player in awe. This was a piece i couldn’t get out of my mind the most though. I wanted to explore how an ancient civiliasation would visulaize the journey of a soul from the mortal plane to the after life. Taking themes from Michalangelos ‘Creation of Adam’, the piece represents the connection between Human and God. travelling from one domain to another represented through a staircase running up both beings hands.
