This is an environmental model created for a fantastical game on an alien planet. The base model was created with hard surface tools in Maya. Once I had a base to work from, I exported the model as an .obj file, so I could then import it into ZBrush. ZBrush allowed me to produce a higher quality sculpt. This high-res sculpt was then exported as such. I then used some tools specific to ZBrush to produce a low-poly model. However, this model was not game-ready as it had a higher amount of polys and didn’t fit into the poly budget allotted. Maya was the next stop. Time to re-topo. Finally, I used the high-res model produced in ZBrush to project fine details into the normal map for the low-poly re-topo created in Maya. What you see here is a sub-divided view of the final result that had 4,700 polys 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 56928 polygons.

I made several changes, added some details (slings, changed the receiver from hex to round, I still think that the hexagonal receiver looks better, but there were no hexagonal PU snipers. I actually made PE scope, so I might do hex PE sniper one day), which increased the polycount by more than 50%, but it is still more than reasonable. And of course this one is PBR. This is a photogrammetry scan of a mid size photography studio in Los Angeles. Start by shooting a good 500 photos, very sharp, hi rez, RAW, with Sony A7, tripod, and remote control to avoid shake. Then color correct with Lightroom, save to 16bit TIFF, open in Agisoft Photoscan to create a rough 3D model, about 2 million polygons. Import this into Maya, rebuild in simple low polygons with clean UV layout. Next this low poly gets imported back into Photoscan where you can project the textures again, (only the best/sharpest 70% of the photo set) into the clean UV’s, and this will export out nice 8k textures. Then use in Maya as a lighting environment since you have the HDR 360 Pano (whole additional workflow there), and try out VRay with GPU for fun. Export out as fbx format for loading into Sketchfab or UE4, fly around with your VR headset. The 6-axis industrial robot is a KUKA KR210_R2700_prime.
