It's almost a year ago that I uploaded my first ship model, the IJN Fubuki, so I decided to make one of her more advanced sister ships: The IJN Ayanami. The Ayanami was build for the Imperial Japanese Navy and when introduced into service she was one of the most powerful destroyer in the world. She sustained critical damage after being shelled by the USS Washington during the second phase of the Battle of Guadalcanal (15 November 1942) and was later scuttled by IJN Uranami. The entire crew cabin can be retracted below the ships hull reducing the radar and target profile of the LAAW, its mast can also be retraced to lower its overall height allowing it to sail under low bridges and narrow sea lanes. The ship is armed with four remote weapons stations that can mount various light and medium caliber cannons. The LAAW is also equipped with the AN/SLQ-59 Electronic warfare system which can jam radar guided anti-ship missiles and is highly effective, the ship also mounts the EOSS optical tracking system which can detect targets up to 4km away. Combined this gives the LAAW excellent situtation awareness in litoral waters.
