Surface scan of the skull of a bear from the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee. Ursus arctos - Brown Bear. DUNUC 2030. Length= 43cm. Acquired by D'Arcy Thompson in Kamchatka, Siberia, during his Bering Sea expeditions of 1896-7. Scanned with an Artec Eva surface scanner. The resulting file is exported as an obj. and imported into Zbrush. The texture is captured during the scanning process and converted to Polypaint in Zbrush. Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. For this, weve sed Quicksurface’s Autosurface option to get the nurbs surface based on the HQ mesh. 3D scan of an Arrau turtle (Podocnemis expansa). This specimen is an example for early taxidermy. This turtle was caught in 1832 on the banks of the Rio Solimões during an Austrian expedition in Brazil. It came to the NHM Vienna in 1834 and is one of a few found specimens of this rare species. Arrau turtles live in the wetland areas of South America and are among the largest freshwater turtles in the world.
The Arrau turtle is Number 73 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 28 of the NHM Vienna.
