The current Mula castle was built in the 16th century on the remains of the old medieval Islamic castle. Still today a great part of the wall that protected this site in Muslim time is preserved thanks to it being reused after the Christian conquest. However, the current castle is the work of Pedro Fajardo y Chacón, I Marqués de los Vélez, who after the popular revolts of 1520 against him, decided to show his power to the town of Mula through the construction of this fortress. That explains the existence in the walls of the castle of up to nine coats of arms belonging to the Fajardo and Silva family. Requested by Charlemagne, Aachen Cathedral was founded in 8th Century in Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle), Holy Roman Empire, now in Germany. Coronations of many Holy Roman Emperors took place here. The central part under the dome was a part of Charlemagne’s Palace, named Palatine Chapel. It is the only well preserved part of the palace left from the Carolingian era, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many extension building works were executed over the centuries, resulting in this peculiar appearance of the Cathedral with mixed architectural styles. This helmet, with its rather special appearance, is one of the few preserved objects that we know was owned by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. It was made in Germany in 1540, probably in Augsburg or Nuremberg, which were home to some of the most skilled armour makers of the time. The visor, the part that covers the face, did not originally belong to the helmet, but it is thought to be of the same period. A helmet of this type was made not for battle but for celebratory occasions. In the 16th century, full suits of steel armour were the height of fashion. For parades and other royal festivities, the social elite would dress up in specially-made sets of costume armour with a close helmet. During these celebrations it became popular, in the early 16th century, to wear close helmets with grotesque visors in the form of animal or human faces, like this one, to enhance the festive atmosphere and heighten the sense of theatricality. It has turned into an epic journey of discovery and importance, working with the assistance of the Sedlec Ossuary Director, and the Sedlec Roman Catholic Parish of Kutná Hora. This will be the most physically and historically accurate representation of the ossuary ever created, from measurements, blueprints, photoscanning, and historic records. The Sedlec Ossuary is located in the town of Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic, which is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site. That is because 47 million years ago there was a tropical forest around Lake Messel, and on its floor the oxygen-deprived environment prevented decomposition of the corpses that sunk into the lake. Anse de Laurons 2 is the wreck of a small Roman period sailing vessel dating to the end of the 3rd century CE, which probably sank during a storm while sheltering in the shallow harbor at Laurons, just west of Marseille in modern France. At only about 15m in length and with an estimated displacement of around 30 tons, it probably only traded between small harbors along the local coastline. When it sank, the port-side was quickly covered in sediment ensuring excellent preservation up to the deck and even the railing. Rigging elements, a spare rudder, and possible fragments from wooden panels that may have covered the hold, along with rarely-preserved structures for supporting the side rudders (the side “wings” you see in a lot of Roman period art). This reconstruction is based on plans by R. Bockius. The decorative elements are hypothetical, based on contemporary paintings and mosaics. It is one of the best preserved Cistercian abbeys in Italy. In 1142 Guarnerio II, Duke of Spoleto and Marquis of the March of Ancona, gave the Cistercians a large area of land which stretched from the river Chienti to the river Fiastra. The monks, who work on the construction of the monastery, used material from the ruins of the nearby Roman town of Urbs Salvia. This church is dedicated to Santa Maria di Chiaravalle di Fiastra. Its architecture is in Romanesque-Burgundian style, and characterized by simplicity and austerity. The plain façade is adorned only with a rose window and a complex portal. Cairn Liath is an Iron Age broch that sits proudly on a rocky knoll and commands views over a long stretch of coastline. Broch’s are substantial stone towers or roundhouses only found in the far north of Scotland. They were constructed and used between 600 BC and 100 AD. This broch has a circular interior 10.2m in diameter and substantial walls over 5m thick; there was one entrance passage to the building. The walls survive to 3.66m high, but originally the building would have stood to a considerably height and had higher floors. A staircase to higher levels was built into the wall. The third Duke of Sutherland ‘cleared’ this broch in 1868 and some of his finds from his antiquarian excavations are preserved in the National Museum of Scotland. Seden Society Puppet Theater Foundation is an important NGO that conserves mass puppet bodies, accessories and script documents. However, these relics are facing serious aging effect, such as surface cracking and peeling off, and the aging issue causes open demonstration and performance are not feasible. Besides, only few specific conservators can restore the relics, and the maintenance efficiency is very limited. Therefore, in this project, a SOP of 3D scanning for the mass puppet bodies is established to accelerate the collection of the puppet bodies’ original mesh models, and enable the modeling staff to fix mesh flaws digitally. These STL models can be preserved in the on-line database systematically, and demonstrated in a free 3D viewpoint. Furthermore, several scanned puppet prototypes are duplicated in an enlarged scale by the 3D printer for better display function in the following exhibitions. Between 1930 and 1950 the Eamons family owned and operated a gas station and motel along Highway 1a, between Calagry and Cochrane. This version of the gas station was built in 1952. In 2012 it was moved to make way for theTuscany LRT station as the city grew past the motel. In 2015 the HIgh River Auto Club purchased the building, which had been in storage, and installed it over the next few years in High river. In 2021 we scanned it for the project. It is a large space, with several additions, and led to complications. Rather than just upload the entire model (over 1.5 Gb) we are isolating someof the features and recreating a smaller version of the building itself to preserve the detail and character. In partnership with the DGAM, the ICONEM’s team was the first one to be in Palmyra since Daesh’s departure. New phase of the major project « Syrian Heritage », this mission has been an opportunity to give a clear picture of the damages suffered by the « pearl of the desert », and more specifically by the Temple of Bel as it has been left behind by Daesh fighters, using photogrammetry. The digitalized 3D model allows us to observe the existence of stone blocs remaining almost intact, meaning that there might be some hope for a partial reconstruction. Some other blocs however have been dynamited. ICONEM’s support in Palmyra has been found essential in order to document the appearance and state of the site right after it’s liberation, which is going to be helpful to the scientific community. The Temple of Jupiter is a colossal Roman temple, the largest of the Roman world, situated at the Baalbek complex in Heliopolis Syriaca, Lebanon. The temple served as an oracle and was dedicated to Jupiter Heliopolitanus. It is not known who commissioned or designed the temple, nor exactly when it was constructed. Work probably began around 16 BC and was nearly complete by about AD 60. It is situated at the western end of the Great Court of Roman Heliopolis, on a broad platform of stone raised another 7 m above the huge stones of the foundation, three of which are among the heaviest blocks ever used in a construction. The Temple of Bacchus is part of the Baalbek temple complex located in the broad Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. The temple complex is considered an outstanding archaeological and artistic site of Imperial Roman Architecture and was inscribed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. During the construction of a new riverside wall in 1962 in London, the remains of an interesting ship were found. Dating evidence from the timbers and a coin found in the mast step placed the ship as likely being built, and sunk, during the Roman period, specifically in the 2nd Century CE. However, the ship was constructed in the Celtic tradition. The reconstruction is based primarily on the excavation report by Peter Marsden published by English Heritage, “Ships of the Port of London – First to eleventh Centuries AD”. It contained detailed drawings of the remains and reconstruction drawings. Where no evidence remained, such as for the sails and the rear of the ship, Roman period iconography and other Roman period shipwrecks from northern Europe were used as inspiration. The Domes were built to facilitate the manufacturing of computers. They were built in 1983 by InnerConn Technology Inc., a manufacturer of circuit boards for computers and watches. They chose this design because they were fast and cheap to build. However during the build InnerConn Technologies defaulted on a loan and they stopped all construction and were never completed. Over the years they have deteriorated and have been vandalized. This one has been photographed and turned into a 3D model to historically preserve its place in time. The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 2 was a large ocean going longship, a war vessel probably known as a Skeid - the type of vessel also known in the sagas as “dragon ships”. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built in Ireland around the 1040’s CE, the furthest away of all the Skuldelev ships. This digital recreation is based on the ‘The Sea Stallion from Glendalough’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. This is all that remains of SS Rifle, one of the earliest surviving examples of a small pre-fabricated screw steamer in the British Isles. Rifle was purchased by the Locheil Estate in the 1860s for use on Loch Arkaig, ferrying goods, passengers and mail between the isolated dwellings around the loch. As well as being a practical vessel, Rifle was also used for pleasure, often carrying shooting parties. The boat was laid-up in the 1930s, and whilst being scrapped, sank and lay buried until removed by the army after becoming a hazard to wartime vessels working from the pier. Rifle was blasted away from the pier, losing the bow in the process. Despite being submerged for over half a century, it was raised in 1990. Although in a very fragile condition, Rifle’s propeller is a well-preserved example of an early design. The model was created as a part of ‘Scanning The Horizon’ 3D digitisation project. The commissioner speficically ask for viking runes on the shield, indicating this equipment has been smithed and used throughout the edges. The runes spelled “Demonbane.” revealing its original purpose. The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 1 was a large ocean going ship, a trading vessel probably known as a Knarr. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built on the west coast of Norway around the 1030’s CE, and so ended it’s life far from where it was built. At some point in its life it had suffered massive damage which left it with a warped keel, and which necessitated significant reconstruction of the hull. This digital recreation is based on the ‘Ottar’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. The provision of a tent over the hold is hypothetical. It depicts a young man with idealised features, rich and unruly hair which fall on the shoulders, and a short beard. His head emerges out of a flower’s calyx as the two acanthus leaves still preserved on his nape show. The flower as a symbol of eternity and rebirth indicates that the man had died by the time that his portrait was made. Who the depicted person is remains unknown. Perhaps he was a philhellene ruler or the descendant of a royal family who had more of a spiritual than political connection to Athens. Some researchers identify him with Sauromates II, king of the Cimmerian Bosporus, others with Rhoemetalkes whereas there are scholars who think it is Herodes Atticus or the emperor Gallienus. Euromus (Greek: Εὔρωμος) – also, Eunomus and Eunomos; earlier Kyromus and Hyromus – was an ancient city in Caria, Anatolia; the ruins are approximately 4 km southeast of Selimiye and 12 km northwest of Milas (the ancient Mylasa), Muğla Province, Turkey.
