This model is of a little-known ship from Empire Strikes Back, a tiny distant TIE shuttle that looks like a bomber with inverted wings, which Captain Needa uses to apologize to Vader in person. This model is mostly based on Jason Eaton’s rendition of the ship in the ‘TIE Fighter Owner’s Manual,’ but with some personal tweaks such as new engines and a thin viewport into the passenger compartment. A larger transport TIE, the TIE Boarding Craft can be seen in Rogue One and Andor, this guy’s not the most spacious! Quite a bit more detailed than my TIE fighter.
4 sets of textures- one for the wings, for the body, for the interior, and for the pilot. The interior and TIE pilot textures are the same as the ones in my regular TIE fighter model. If Sketchfab supported UDIMs, everything could be in 1 material using multiple UV tiles, but for now, it’s 5 separate materials (one more to be able to dial in the glass transparency, even though it uses the body textures.) This is a 3D model of a creation that I built in “Stormworks: Build and Rescue” which I modified using the mystical powers of Blender. Although I tried my best to clean it up, the nature of exporting models from video games means that it’s still a bit rough in some areas.
My model attempts to represent the Glen Sannox as she would’ve appeared in her original 1957 configuration, although I took some artistic liberty and added some extra rust on the hull (because it looks cool?).
I originally completed this creation in Stormworks in July of 2020, but I soon realized that my model wasn’t very accurate when compared to the real ship. Using pictures that I found online, I’ve almost completely rebuilt my model to be as accurate to the real thing as possible. Though it ended up a bit too polygon-heavy, I am still happy how this turned out. My main difficulty was to render out curvature maps for the rust and scratch effects in Substance painter, but Xnormal does a good enough job after some tweaking around in Substance Painter.
This is a model based off of Joe Petagno’s cover art for the 1986 album “Orgasmatron” by Motörhead. Petagno is the original artist behind Motörheads famous boar-like figurehead and the guy behind their album art. He has also created Led Zeppelins famous Icarus character and artwork for many other bands of different genres, even covers for sci-fi books.
