I started out just wanting to make a plant, but I couldn’t keep my grubby little sci-fi loving hands out of this project. I do a lot of dingy, banged up tech objects, but this time, I wanted to dive in hard with the super sleek stormtrooper helmet style white plastic. I stumbled across an amazing concept of this bugbear by Jaemin Kim and thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to make a full character from a concept. I started by sculpting the whole body in ZBrush and then retopologized using the Zsphere tool. I then went on to unwrap him in 3ds Max, texture him in Substance Painter, finally using Maya to rig and do the simple breathing animation. This is my contribution to the digital car creation. It started as a simple model but adding more and more detail led it to the current state. The demo animation should give you some ideas what’s inside the package but it doesn’t include everything. I wasn’t able to optimize it for sketchfab without loosing too much quality (normally I’d hide parts of the model) so it’ll take a bit to load the textures and unfortunately (also for me) some of you (with slower GPUs) will struggle a bit to see the content - in that case, please pause the animation. It’s a complete model of the 911SC from ‘83. It’s completely unwrapped, with painted textures and rigged. The rig is of course made for this animation but I’ll attach a different one suitable for Unreal Engine. This is a photogrammetry scan of a mid size photography studio in Los Angeles. Start by shooting a good 500 photos, very sharp, hi rez, RAW, with Sony A7, tripod, and remote control to avoid shake. Then color correct with Lightroom, save to 16bit TIFF, open in Agisoft Photoscan to create a rough 3D model, about 2 million polygons. Import this into Maya, rebuild in simple low polygons with clean UV layout. Next this low poly gets imported back into Photoscan where you can project the textures again, (only the best/sharpest 70% of the photo set) into the clean UV’s, and this will export out nice 8k textures. Then use in Maya as a lighting environment since you have the HDR 360 Pano (whole additional workflow there), and try out VRay with GPU for fun. Export out as fbx format for loading into Sketchfab or UE4, fly around with your VR headset. The 6-axis industrial robot is a KUKA KR210_R2700_prime. This is a model based in Venrin’s concept. I started doing this 3D model when it was available on DeviantArt but it’s just on Pinterest now. Some technical things to mention about the model: I forgot about the incapacibility of most of the file formats to store nodes information, so, I had to bake it all to expose the model here The animation has a bug in her left eye, maybe because I animated it all using shape keys in different objects? In blender it’s all synchronized and smooth hahaha xD.
