In August, 2017 I have joined French Foreign legion modding discord as a 3d artist, to work on the development of mods for Squad (the game). The first assignment I took over was the mortar. The process took a bit longer ( month or so), since I have a full time job and limited time to work on my solo projects. The process started with research and gathering of all the references possible. Next step was to block out the major parts and start working on the high poly model. The biggest problem was to figure out how the mortar actually works, shoots, moves and folds. After completing the high poly I started modeling the low poly. Next step was to unwrap the whole thing and get it ready for painting. After initial painting was finished I imported everything to Unreal Engine to see how everything looks in the Squad itself. Vasa was a Swedish warship that capsized and sank off Beckholmen in Stockholm’s inlet on its maiden voyage, August 10, 1628. After some early unsuccessful attempts to rescue her in the 17th century, Vaasa was largely forgotten. The ship’s approximate position remained known until the middle of the 19th century, but no serious attempts were made to salvage it. In 1956, the amateur researcher and engineer Anders Franzén, together with the diver Per Edvin Fälting, succeeded in re-establishing Vaasa’s exact position and after several years of marine archeological excavations and preparations, Vasa was lifted above the water surface on April 24, 1961. Since 1990 the ship is included in a permanent exhibition in Stockholm. Until 1988, the wreck was stored in Wasavarvet, a temporary building that, in addition to being a combined conservation room, was allowed to function as a temporary museum. This is work in progress. Something that makes this site unusual is that parts of the antennas and their turntables still survive here. After the war the site was partially dismantled then some buildings/structures blown up with explosives. Damage to the floors indicate where some of the charges were set.
