Photogrammetry model of ceremonial helmet and armour (year 1780 to 1820) from Qing dynasty at British Museum. The helmet is conical in shape. A Tibetan influence is visible in the graphs applied to the rim of the helmet. Armour - velvet, silk and brocade reinforced with gilded copper alloy studs and lamellae. The sloping vent at the back allows the wearer to mount a horse. Made of silver, copper alloy, velvet, silk and brocade. Qing soldiers and guards came from many different cultures and countries, and included Manchus, Han Chinese, Mongols, Koreans, Uighurs, Tibetans and Russians. They were organized in groups called Banners. The harquebusier was the most common form of cavalry found throughout Western Europe during the early to mid-17th century. Early harquebusiers were characterised by the use of a type of carbine called a “harquebus”. In England, harquebusier was the technical name for this type of cavalry, though in everyday usage they were usually simply called ‘cavalry’ or ‘horse’. In Germany they were often termed Ringerpferd, or sometimes Reiter, in Sweden they were called lätta ryttare.
The armour comprises a Pot Helmet with two-piece skull joined by a low-comb, neck-guard (Lobster tail) of simulated lames and pointed peak or visor with three-bar guard hinged at each side to allow it to be raised when not needed. At each side are the cheek pieces for protection, hinged by means of leather strips.
