The Phaistos Disc (also spelled Phaistos Disk, Phaestos Disc) is a disk of fired clay from the Minoan palace of Phaistos on the island of Crete, possibly dating to the middle or late Minoan Bronze Age (second millennium BC). This digital reconstruction depicts an early medieval brooch found in 2022 by a metal detectorist in Wiltshire - United Kingdom. The brooch was made using a coin (penny) dating to the early 1050s CE during the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066).
Interestingly it was the reverse side of the coin that was displayed when the brooch was worn - presumably because it had crosses on it and as such was a form of religious badge.
