This little bird nursery was a project to further push my understanding and skills of the handpainted game art pipeline, from concept to having a finished model. In this case, I also wanted to explore how to blend different terrain textures into each other, and how to generate grass with a particle system instead of placing them all by hand like in my previous props. I’m happy it worked the way it did! In order to get this on Sketchfab I even got some additional practice: Baking said ground textures onto the ground plane, and converting my grass particles into actual geometry. Merging those then ended up making my file twice the size - but “compressing” it brought it down again. Lots of mini-roadblocks, but here it is! Hello everyone, I made this model of a cute Unicorn Claw Machine following a design by the artist Julie Perez for the medieval back-and-forth challenge on Artstation. The polycount for the full model and the 4 little wooden horse is 47972. I don’t know how you’d manage to spawn so many little unicorn wooden toys in a game, so the full polycount is way higher on my take. I bet you could just use particles or an equivalent to avoid the extra triangles. I also did that demonstration animation, to show how eveything could work but of course in a game that’d be done with programming not actual bones, haha. For the concept I based myself on the abandon military and scientific bases of Deception Island (Antartica), including the old whale oil refinery factories. While searching for some reference, I fell in love with the colors and mood that some of the pictures depicted from these places . They are completly abandoned and destroyed, but their surroundings seemed so quiet, pure and constant in time that made these houses feel like the only reserves of life in the place, even though they were forgotten long time ago. A moody little village and a mysterious jewellery shop. I made this for rendering, so the meshes and UV’s are not perfectly optimized. I didn’t use any purchased assets for this, so everything is modeled by me. Shaders were almost all procedural originally. I baked them into bitmap textures with Arnold. I had to reduce the plant models to simple ones due to Sketchfab file size limit. 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 1777243 polygons.

Model of Asuka Langley the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion! Posed as she is in her official artwork – spunky and tsundere. I wanted to do a chibi model of Asuka after working on the Mass Produced Evangelion character (also visible on my page!), and in the end I think she came out really cute! I like modeling cute things truthfully as well as figurative characters, so this project was definitely a lot of fun. It was once again a big learning experience though, as I really tried to work on things like facial topology, that anime-feeling style, and being painterly with my textures. I still have a long way to go of course, but this felt like a big milestone that I’m happy to have done!
