” Many weeks have passed since she lost the group. The scientific wonders were no longer in her head. Survival became the first priority. The abandon places resumed their task and started holding life again. She lost everything but the lights were always on, hoping that someone would spot them on the distance.” Hand painted scene I did for my Game Graphics final exam in Digital Arts and Entertainment. For the concept I based myself on the abandon military and scientific bases of Deception Island (Antartica), including the old whale oil refinery factories. While searching for some reference, I fell in love with the colors and mood that some of the pictures depicted from these places . They are completly abandoned and destroyed, but their surroundings seemed so quiet, pure and constant in time that made these houses feel like the only reserves of life in the place, even though they were forgotten long time ago. A personal project that I’ve been doing in my spare time for about a year. I have learned many new things during this time, for example, how to use Unreal Engine 5 and Substance Designer. Also I repeated the basics of 3D pipeline I learned at XYZ School. Most importantly, I managed to convey the mood with which the people of the post-Soviet space are picking berries. An old but reliable grandfather’s scooter, a couple of buckets and a good tovarisch nearby – everything you need for a “quiet hunt”. For the terrain I used the “Simple grass chunks” by 3dhdscan and the “Grassy Ground” texture by Game Textures. A moody little village and a mysterious jewellery shop. I made this for rendering, so the meshes and UV’s are not perfectly optimized. I didn’t use any purchased assets for this, so everything is modeled by me. Shaders were almost all procedural originally. I baked them into bitmap textures with Arnold. The Glowglobe is a replica of one of my favourite movie props. These floating lamps produce an incredible mood for some of the most critical scenes in the movie.
