I created the model in Maya, Textured in Substance Painter to get the basic textures and colours down before taking the maps into Photoshop to start the painting process. The bandit camp was originally conceptualize for the mediterranean, pirate / magic themed level I was building in Unreal for whta I called the Amalgam game. I made the concept of a single level I wanted to make, similarly to the one I did 3 years ago, but fully with my own assets. The bandit camp is using sets of items. each set consist of 5-10 items and they share the UV map per set. I tried to logically put together items that are relatively close, so when the engine needs to load them, it will be easy, but I’m not really sure I achieved the desired effect, since now for a very small item, the engine also needs to load a larger picture. Without comaring the results in unreal with this approach and to have every item use their own UV, would take me to re-UV all items, but that’s too much work.. Very happy with this one- a low poly pbr model of an A-wing, somewhere in between the Star Wars: Rebels and Return of the Jedi versions, complete with a low detail cockpit interior and pilot, and some of my best textures yet. The overall proportions and colorscheme are inspired by Rebels, but the engine tips, split nose and laser cannons are more like RotJ– really this design could go anywhere in the post-Clone Wars timeline. The glass material uses the same textures as the hull, so if you had a huge fleet and wanted to improve performance, you can apply the hull material to the whole thing to have opaque black shiny glass, and then you could delete the pilot too to save on his material. On the other hand, if you want to get fancier and add some refraction to the glass, the glass pieces are their own separate elements, so it is easy to select them and add a little bit of thickness with a shell/solidify modifier in your 3D software of choice. Some lights in the engines will also make it look fancier.
