This is my first real-time character I’ve made from scratch. I wanted to make a post-apocalyptic character that could belong in a world like Fallout or the Metro series. She goes by Jane. She is a small woman who relies on her tactical awareness to stay alive in an unforgiving wasteland. She is cold-hearted and manipulative. She has some military training and now makes a living robbing and murdering travelers and those who underestimate her. Everyday life in Pontes, Roman Staines; a piece of painted wall plaster. Some people in Roman Staines did rather well out of selling provisions to passing travellers; their houses had tiled roofs, Opus Signinum (concrete) floors, hypocaust flue tiles (under floor heating), window glass and painted walls. This is one of many fragments of painted wall plaster found in Staines. If you look carefully you can see a groove on the back where the slaked lime/sand/aggregate plaster was attached to the wooden ‘wattle’ frame of the wall, and a thin fine smooth layer of crushed marble which is applied to the outer surface to provide a painting surface. Analysis of samples from Staines by the University of Leicester showed our painted plaster to be painted ‘buon fresco’, or when the plaster was still wet, meaning plastering and painting were completed in panels of one days work before the plaster dried. From the original 1987 hit Disneyland attraction Star Tours, the legendary StarSpeeder 3000! The StarSpeeder 3000 was a transport spacecraft used by the Star Tours travel agency. In this asset, I bring a bus body model that was very popular in Brazil and in some Latin American countries in the 70s. The production of this model bodywork started in 1971 and ended in 1975 (its successor Marcopolo III went into production at the end of 74). For me this model of bus represents a lot, especially with the painting of this company, TransCampos, a local company (now extinct) that connected two small towns in the interior of my state. Me, my brother and my mother sometimes traveled on this exact model of bus, the route was always a dirt road (often in poor condition), either in one direction to go near the case of my maternal grandparents, or else , in the other direction to the largest city in the region, Pelotas (Rio Grande do Sul). The idea came after having explained to Linda Flowers the workflow for creating a complete character. Kiddo (the little girl) is her first model. In a month I taught her the basics of modeling, retopology and texturing. Synth (the elderly character) instead was born in parallel while explaining everything to her. The basic idea was to create non-speaking characters and to be able to characterize them with actions, lights and shots. The Unreal sequencer was the best tool to do this. Synth and Kiddo are awakeners and travel from world to awaken gods of musical genres in seemingly neutral worlds. In this case the awakened god is that of New Retro Wave music. All models were made through my classic workflow: 1. Zbrush for the highpoly 2. Maya Retopology + UV + Rigging 3. Substance Painter 4. Maya for animation 5. Unreal Engine 4 and Marmoset for final renderings. I hope you enjoy!
