It’s a cactus made in the shape of cats, so it’s a “cat”ctus! Get it?? Anyway, it was super fun bringing Miski’s (@miskiart) concept into the 3D sphere (pun intended) just becuase I always enjoy the challenge of using outlines and bright colors. This piece, however, is a bit out of my usual format since the textures are just base colors with little to no hand-painterly work. It was still fun being able to try and translate such a flat image to 3D! Their inscriptions feature the names of the people who lived and died at this time. They also provide information about the travels, great achievements and sad fates of these individuals. Rune stones are by and large only found in Scandinavia. Around 250 rune stones are known from Viking Age Denmark. Most of the Scandinavian examples are from Sweden, where there are over 3000 inscriptions. Digital 3D reconstruction model of Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirling, Scotland showing what the abbey and adjoining monastic buildings might have looked like in its rebuilt state following an attack by the army of King Richard II of England in 1383. The abbey has an accompanying freestanding bell tower or campanile which is unusual in Scotland. The tower is the only surviving part of the original church that remains standing to this day. It may have been spared its destruction by virtue of its use as a watchtower. The exterior masonry of the church may have appeared with a much brighter, lime-washed rendering than I have shown in this reconstruction. The masonry may also have featured decorative (painted) elements but such evidence for the exterior rendering of churches from before the reformation is hard to come by. This little bird nursery was a project to further push my understanding and skills of the handpainted game art pipeline, from concept to having a finished model. In this case, I also wanted to explore how to blend different terrain textures into each other, and how to generate grass with a particle system instead of placing them all by hand like in my previous props. I’m happy it worked the way it did! In order to get this on Sketchfab I even got some additional practice: Baking said ground textures onto the ground plane, and converting my grass particles into actual geometry. Merging those then ended up making my file twice the size - but “compressing” it brought it down again. Lots of mini-roadblocks, but here it is!
