I had the privilege to work with the super chill and talented teammate, Gabriel Eekenulv, Skyblivion’s Concept Art Lead. Together we produced this grand and regal set of armor. As a historical arms and armor enthusiast, I often time find it difficult to work with many fantasy concept arts. Most designs sacrifice basic understanding and practicality for “cool” aesthetics which make no sense. When I came across Eekenulv’s armor designs, however, I was in awe. His designs are grand, elegant, and “cool”, yet they maintain insights and functionality of armors, a perfect balance between “Realism” and “Suspension of Disbelieve”.
This was one of the most fun project I’ve produced in collaboration with others. Not to mention my Twitch subscribers who took part in submitting poleaxe designs, which eventually developed into the one you see. The Scorpenek droid was a model of droid utilized for combat. The Pyke Syndicate deployed two of these units during the battle for Mos Espa. They were armed with four laser cannons mounted in pairs on either side of its body. Scorpenek droids were equipped with a nearly impervious deflector shield that enveloped it completely, protecting the droid from virtually all conventional weaponry.
This droids appears in episode 7 of The Book of Boba Fett. Boba Fett and Din Jarin(The Mandalorian) confronted two droids on Tatooine. Thanks to Grogu and Rancor, both hostile droids were destroyed.
