Castillo de Alhama de Murcia is located in the Murica region of Spain. The castle is situated high on a steep hilltop and is of Islamic origin, built during the 12th and 13th centuries. Portions of the castle recently have been restored. Important structural features include a main tower, extensive wall fortification, and aljibes (cisterns). The Machine Gun Bunker of Alhama de Murcia is one of the best examples of 20th century military architecture in the Region of Murcia. Its design and construction is part of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), possibly built in 1937, forming part of the Ground Defense Plan of the naval base of Cartagena, strategic installation, from the military point of view, for the survival of the Republic.
The bunker is essentially built in concrete, a scarce and valuable material during the war that was only used in priority military installations. It conserves its two lateral entrances. Inside the bunker is divided into 3 spaces, two of them for the placement of heavy machine guns and the third to the storage of supplies and ammunition, also serving as a refuge.
This model was created from 567 images taken from a DJI Phantom 4 Pro Plus drone. The images were aligned, and the model was generated and textured in Reality Capture.

Today, I organised a 3D scanning workshop at ESSEC Business School. A brand new Knowledge Lab has been inaugurated a few months ago. It is a fab-lab for scientific and pedagogical innovation. Workshops on many different topics are organised on a regular basis, and today was about 3D scanning!
Now a few students know how to take good pictures with no shades, good lighting, and from any angle ; how to use Recap360 or Memento to turn those pictures into a 3D model ; how to enhance its mesh on Meshlab ; how to publish it on Sketchfab, edit it with the 3D Settings, publish it anywhere online, and enjoy it in VR straight from their cardboard!
Here was the object we used for the workshop, a set of coasters that look like tennis rackets. The piece is on display at the Museo Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología in Guatemala City. SY Carola is possibly the oldest seagoing steam yacht in the world. It was built in 1898 by Scott & Sons of Bowling at their shipyard on the north banks of the River Clyde. At 70ft in length, Carola is of steel construction with teak decking and deckhouse, and now has two masts.
Built for personal use by the shipbuilder’s family, Carola was used as a yacht during the summer months and when not being used for pleasure by the family, it would take groups of senior yard staff on Clyde cruises. In winter it would have served as a tender and tug at the shipyard.
By 1964 it was sold to a private owner, before being purchased in 1981 by a Sus firm and used for corporate hospitality.
Carola became a part of the Scottish Maritime Museum’s collection in 1994.
