Currently on museum display at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine, Florida, this piece originally was located above the ravelin structure - a smaller fortification that provided a first line of defense at the entrance of the fort. This Coat of Arms was removed in 1957 to conserve the piece, and has been on display allowing visitors to the National Park to see it up-close. Today, a replica has been placed where the original Coat of Arms was found. As part of our comprehensive 3D survey, we used structured light scanning and imaging to document both the replica and the original piece. Our data is being used for digital archival preservation, conservation, additional replica creation, and for 3D modeling and public engagement. Our Sketchfab design uses an historic image of the ravelin structure from 1895, showing the Coat of Arms as it was, before its removal. Here is the 8th model of the archeology collection.
This limestone funerary cippus was discovered in Bordeaux during the unearthing of the Gallo- Roman ramparts in 1868. It is dated 258 a.C. The epitaphs are dated 261 a.C.
The double epitaph, both pagan and christian, does not allow to say that Domitia was Christian. However, it is an extremely interesting marker of the transition to the time when Christianity will prevail in this part of the world.
You can discover it at the Aquitaine Museum in Bordeaux, France.
