This rare and exquisite antique table nef ship is an extraordinary example of Viennese neo-Renaissance design, created by the legendary artisan Hermann Boehm. Nefs, so-called because of the French word for this kind of ship (nef) were popular table decorations in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe. They would often be made out of precious metals and occasionally used to store expensive condiments such as salt, pepper and spices, as well as cutlery or napkins. Hermann Boehm (active from 1866) was Vienna's most acclaimed silversmith & enamellist working at the end of the 19th Century, and was especially well-known for his intricately-crafted, artistically-innovative objets d'art in the neo-Renaissance style. I was told a really interesting fact about antique medical supplies from a teacher who taught me 3D art in the past. The reasons for a lot of medical supplies/furniture during this time being green is so that when blood sprays on this colour, it appears as black and is less confronting to patients. This is because mixing red and green together, the result achieved is a dark brownish-black colour.
The drawers and cupboards have functioning hinges and can be opened and closed to store all of your important medicines and supplies!
This asset was created for EDEN, the indie surreal horror game by Missing Mountain Dev. The game takes place in an Australian Manor post WWII and the Gold Rush. Drawing heavy influence from Victorian Era furnishings which were used to display wealth during this period.
