Artist’s impression of a star forming region, a dense interstellar gas and dust cloud where stars are formed in large numbers in intervals of time of the order of a million years. These clouds consist in a mixture of dust, hydrogen, helium and heavy elements previously forged in the interior of previous stars and ejected at the end of their lives in the form of dense winds and supernova explosions. New stars are formed in the cloud from the collapse of dense knots (an example is the star-forming region nebula NGC 346; see figure below). The newly formed stars are very active and characterized by strong variability: bright flares, massive accretion episodes, ejection of plasma in the form of collimated jets, coronal mass ejections, and winds. I had the privilege to work with the super chill and talented teammate, Gabriel Eekenulv, Skyblivion’s Concept Art Lead. Together we produced this grand and regal set of armor. As a historical arms and armor enthusiast, I often time find it difficult to work with many fantasy concept arts. Most designs sacrifice basic understanding and practicality for “cool” aesthetics which make no sense. When I came across Eekenulv’s armor designs, however, I was in awe. His designs are grand, elegant, and “cool”, yet they maintain insights and functionality of armors, a perfect balance between “Realism” and “Suspension of Disbelieve”.
This was one of the most fun project I’ve produced in collaboration with others. Not to mention my Twitch subscribers who took part in submitting poleaxe designs, which eventually developed into the one you see.
