Whhooaa new support for refraction! I had some concept art sitting around of a plant fairy trapped in its eternal home of amber (a simplecg monthly challenge from a while back), and never got around to modeling it. This building was a solitary cell/torture chamber in Mweru detention camp in Nyeri, Kenya. ‘Hardcore’ detainees would be kept here in solitary confinement seperated from the rest of detainees for extended periods of time. Here they would be tortured, beaten and denied essentials such as food and water. After independece, the camp was later converted to a secondary school and goes by the name Mweru High School today.
The building shown in this 3D reconstruction still stands within the school grounds today and is used as a store. A sign attached to the building reads, ” Mau Mau Torture Room, they hated the injustice, they took the oath and went to the forest. They were detained, harassed and tortured, they died for our FREEDOM”

Playing Alien Isolation recently inspired me to start working on my own Nostromo interior in Unity 5, great practise for super detailed hard surface environments and poly-count budgets. A.k.a. When life gives you eggs…
Created in Blender and Gimp.
The egg model is a simple elongated UV-sphere, cut in two through a boolean modifier using a subdivided plane, which vertices have been randomized.
The egg white was simulated with fluids physics, before being manually sculpted to correct artifacts and smoothen it. The yolk was added manually later.
All the shell textures are procedural, and were created with Cycles nodes baked to the exported model before actually “cracking” it open.
