Cutting in the windows a couple years after the outside model was done made for some very messy topology around them, but the overall ship is still low poly enough, and no one will notice. The glass is also currently single-sided, just to be more performant than trying to have glass with thickness and refraction. Very happy with this one- a low poly pbr model of an A-wing, somewhere in between the Star Wars: Rebels and Return of the Jedi versions, complete with a low detail cockpit interior and pilot, and some of my best textures yet. The overall proportions and colorscheme are inspired by Rebels, but the engine tips, split nose and laser cannons are more like RotJ– really this design could go anywhere in the post-Clone Wars timeline. The glass material uses the same textures as the hull, so if you had a huge fleet and wanted to improve performance, you can apply the hull material to the whole thing to have opaque black shiny glass, and then you could delete the pilot too to save on his material. On the other hand, if you want to get fancier and add some refraction to the glass, the glass pieces are their own separate elements, so it is easy to select them and add a little bit of thickness with a shell/solidify modifier in your 3D software of choice. Some lights in the engines will also make it look fancier. The Mosquito scan (415k tris) is from Geoffrey Marchal. Modeling: The scan was first remeshed with mmgs and baked to a lighter version (11k tris). The amber fragment was roughly sculpted in blender (“I have no clue what I’m doing” style), keeping the main face flat (clay strips + flatten brushes). The small fragments inside the amber were done by splitting all the main fragment edges and applying the “shrink/fatten” tool, followed by a random Displace modifier. Exterior fragments were then removed with a boolean modifier.
