  Knight 3D Model 2023-11-05
The school objective was to create a high quality game ready model in a month (the month being shortened to around 3 weeks due to Christmas break). For the model, I chose to create a medieval knight. The Green Knight, low poly was made in Maya, and high poly was made in zBrush. High res was sculpted in 2 days and low res was finished in around 2 days. The game res model was made using the quad draw tool in Maya and UVs were also cut in the software. When creating the low res, I also split some parts off in order to allow for customization as if the model had different armor sets. The textures were made in 4 days with the help of Substance Painter. I followed UE4 PBR guidelines and did every material as a procedural. I did this using generators, fill layers, etc. I did this to allow for felxiability in the texturing and allow for changes to be made if someone chose to 3d model

This digital reconstruction depicts an early medieval brooch found in 2022 by a metal detectorist in Wiltshire - United Kingdom. The brooch was made using a coin (penny) dating to the early 1050s CE during the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066). Interestingly it was the reverse side of the coin that was displayed when the brooch was worn - presumably because it had crosses on it and as such was a form of religious badge. This is a photogrammetry scan of a mid size photography studio in Los Angeles. Start by shooting a good 500 photos, very sharp, hi rez, RAW, with Sony A7, tripod, and remote control to avoid shake. Then color correct with Lightroom, save to 16bit TIFF, open in Agisoft Photoscan to create a rough 3D model, about 2 million polygons. Import this into Maya, rebuild in simple low polygons with clean UV layout. Next this low poly gets imported back into Photoscan where you can project the textures again, (only the best/sharpest 70% of the photo set) into the clean UV’s, and this will export out nice 8k textures. Then use in Maya as a lighting environment since you have the HDR 360 Pano (whole additional workflow there), and try out VRay with GPU for fun. Export out as fbx format for loading into Sketchfab or UE4, fly around with your VR headset. The 6-axis industrial robot is a KUKA KR210_R2700_prime.
